Big 5 Fort can be found at the Big 5 at the end of Frederick Street... a fort-like building! While it looks inaccessible from the street, Big 5 Fort actually meets an important need! For wheelchair-bound folk who travel to Grahamstown for events such as the National Arts Festival, the Sasol SciFest, Rhodes University graduation and other events, this accommodation facility provides clean, tasteful, self-contained accommodation that is accessible! Big 5 Fort is located on a hill overlooking the town, 1.5 km from the centre of Grahamstown and 2 km to Rhodes University. It is set up for self-catering, for 1 or 2 people sharing. Situated in a peaceful cul-de-sac, it is ideal for the visitor who wants a quiet retreat away from TV and other distractions, to relax, meditate, or work in peace. Non-smoking.
The two single (twin) beds have firm mattresses, sheets, blankets & duvets. The fully equipped kitchenette has a fridge, kettle, filter coffee machine, toaster, microwave, two-plate stove, kitchen utensils, crockery & cutlery. Bath & hand towels are also provided. An exclusive, en suite bathroom is completely wheelchair accessible, with wide turning circles and a roll-in shower.
In winter, a gas heater & 'hotty' bean bags keep guests warm and comfortable, and in the hot summer months, a ceiling fan provides a refreshing breeze.
The semi-detached flat has its own separate entrance via a private courtyard. It is adjacent to a large indigenous garden (with excellent birdlife). There is off-street parking, either in an open carport or a lock-up garage.
Payment can be made by cash or cheque. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.
